Elizabeth Ann (Keller) Kuehn was born on September 10, 1943 in Mandan, ND. She was adopted by Kathryn and Pete Keller and grew up in the Mandan area. Liz attended high school at St. Benedict's School for Girls in St. Joseph, MN and was active in choir and basketball. She went on to college at the University of North Dakota, planning on majoring in Social Work. She left UND after her third year and married Curtis E. Kuehn on June 6, 1964 in Mandan, ND. Curt began his teaching career in 1964 and they began a family in 1965. The family lived in Cooperstown, ND; Napoleon, ND and Ellendale, MN before settling in Clara City in 1970. Liz sold World Book Encyclopedias for a short time and also worked for the State of Minnesota administering standardized tests throughout local school districts. In November of 1978 she was offered a position at Citizens' State Bank and worked there for 30 years. Her second family was there and she continued to enjoy their love and support through her last days. She was also very active at St. Clara's Catholic Church in CCW and was a board member for many years. When Liz was younger she really enjoyed playing softball. She also loved a good round of golf and really enjoyed the past warm fall and staying on the courses well into the end of the season. She was always reading a good book with J.D. Robb and Nora Roberts being her favorite author(s). She was active in Bridge Club and loved visiting with her friends there. She loved people and could be counted on to make new friends and acquaintances wherever she went. Liz loved to be warm and enjoyed her trips to Mexico with her family. She especially enjoyed having everyone together at Christmas in Mexico in 2010. She loved to travel and explore. She loved life with abandon. She lit up whenever she talked about her grandchildren. But she missed dancing with Curt, and they are together now for eternity. Liz had many names. She was Mom, Aunt Betty, Grandma, Aunt Liz, Lizard.....She will be missed by all for her gentle, kind spirit and her wit and wisdom. Liz died peacefully at the Clara City Care Center on Monday, May 6 surrounded by her daughter, Julie and son, Steve. Her courageous battle with cancer is an inspiration to us all. She never complained, and fought courageously to the end. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by her daughter Julie (& Mike) Daugherty of New London, MN; her son Steve of Bloomington, MN; 2 granddaughters AnneMarie and Katherine of St. Cloud, MN; brother Frank (& Georgia) Keller of Bismarck, ND; sister-in-law Karmine (& Loren) of Flagstaff, AZ; brother-in-law Richard (& Sharon) of Alexandria, MN; and 17 nieces & nephews.
