Elizabeth "Betty" Speiser

Betty Speiser, age 89, of Clara City passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023 at the Clara City Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at 2:30 PM at St. Clara Catholic Church in Clara City with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Speiser was born June 13, 1933 to Theodore and Cecilia (Rhode) Speiser on the farm near Clara City, Minnesota. She was the oldest of nine children and grew up on the farm. Betty went to school through eighth grade at the St. Clara Catholic School before moving to New Ulm to live with her grandparents while attending high school and graduating with the Class of 1951.
After finishing school, Betty began working as a secretary at the Loretto Hospital in New Ulm. She later started working at the New Ulm Telephone Company and it was from here that she retired in 1997. In 1999, Betty made the move to Clara City to be closer to family.
Betty enjoyed reading, crocheting and loved animals, especially dogs. Though cooking wasn’t a strength, she could put together a hotdish for family to share. Betty learned to be independent being single all her life, but she also appreciated her family.
Betty is survived by her siblings, Mary Sparks, Joan Speiser, Paul Speiser, Jim (Peggy) Speiser; sister-in-law, Dawn Speiser all of Clara City; many nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces as well as other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Cecilia; three infant brothers and brother, John. May she rest in peace.
