Eleanor Mary Klaassen was born December 8, 1929, in Montevideo, the daughter of Herbert & Mae (Kimpling) Speiser. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. She attended the Catholic School and Maynard School.
Eleanor was united in marriage to Joe Klaassen in the St. Clara Catholic Rectory on April 12, 1950. She had different jobs while she was with us. She worked for Walt and Marcella Condon, watching over Tom as he grew up. She also worked at the Clara City Liquor Store as a bartender, waitress and helped with inventory. She was a clerk at Chet’s Wholesale Foods and did daycare for the Henslin’s in Raymond. She would also watch the neighborhood kids for the mom’s, when they went on ambulance runs.
Eleanor did a lot of summer and winter fishing with Joe in the early years. She embroidered, crocheted and also quilting. Together, they would work in the garden and on jig saw puzzles. Her specialty was chocolate silk and raisin cream pie and her stuffing for the turkey was second to none.
Eleanor passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014, at the Clara City Care Center. She was 85 years of age.
She is survived by her son Larry (Shirley) Klaassen of Clara City; two grandsons: David (Kelly) Klaassen of Montevideo and Mark Klaassen of Clara City; three great grandchildren: Ashley, Caleb and Mackenzie Klaassen; two sisters: Sharon (Harlan) Dragt of Willmar and Carol Schipnewski of Clara City; sister-in-law Delores Speiser of Litchfield and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers: Cecil and Clarence Speiser.
