Eldoris LaVon Leyse Hustad was born in her parents, Oscar and Alice (Lindevig-Burns) LeyseÂ?s home in Maynard, MN on October 31, 1931. She had an older sister, Mary Jean. Later, two brothers, Dick and Harold joined the family. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and in 1943, the family moved to Granite Falls. She continued her education there, graduating from high school in 1950. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a statistician for the MN Inspection Bureau in St. Paul and then as an underwriter for the CA Inspection Rating Bureau in San Francisco, CA. On September 25, 1954, she married Keith Hustad from Echo, MN. The gifts of this union were Deborah, Keith, Laura and Kathryn. The family resided in Wood Lake for 12 years and then moved to Granite Falls. Eldoris was always an involved and active person. She taught Sunday School for 18 years and while living in Wood Lake, she was Sunday School Superintendent. She twice served as president of the American Lutheran Church Women at Granite Falls Lutheran Church, was commissioned as a Stephen Minister in 1991and was employed for 10 years at the Granite Falls Elementary School. She was charter president of the Granite Falls Association of Auxiliary Personnel. Being community minded, she served as director of the Minnesota Valley Improvement Assoc. for 6 years. Twice she served as Lena for the Ole & Lena Days celebration and served on the Granite Falls Historical Society. Among her other employments, Eldoris worked as a cook and baker at the Eatery Restaurant and Granite Falls Municipal Hospital. She enjoyed all of her jobs and compared her factory employment to that of Lucille BallÂ?s comedy segment on the assembly line. Eldoris loved life, loved to read books and loved to travel, visiting every state except Hawaii and Oregon. She made 5 trips to Europe, including 4 trips to Norway. She and Keith became members of the Sons of Norway in 1974. She was very proud of her ancestors and heritage and served as a delegate to the International Sons of Norway convention held in Lillehammer, Norway in 1991. She gathered a huge collection of family genealogy and was president of the Lindevik family organization in America. She once visited Rome where her group was blessed by the Pope. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and her greatest enjoyment came from reading letters, conversing on the phone and visiting with her friends and family. Her fondest memories are of the many wonderful times she spent with her family during the holidays and in their many travels. Eldoris was called from this life at the age of 82 years on Sunday, January 12, 2014, while under Hospice Care in Burnsville, MN. She is survived by her children Deborah Dakken of Northwood, IA, Keith Jr. (& Lisa) Hustad of Lakeville, MN, Laura (& Jay) Johnson of Apple Valley, MN and Kathryn (& Allen) Doty of Rochester, MN; 5 grandsons Nathan (& LeeAnn) Dakken, Adam & Austin Johnson, and Cale & Evan Doty; 2 step grandchildren Amy Roseman and Chad (& Kaia) Kraml; 6 step great grandchildren Mikaya, Amareon, London, Sydney, Janiyah & Vienna; 2 brothers Richard (& Shirley) Leyse and Harold Leyse; nieces, nephews, and extended family. Eldoris was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister Mary Jean Hanson; sister-in-law Janice Leyse; brother-in-law John Hanson and niece Sara.
