Eldon Peterson

Eldon "Elde" Arthur Peterson was born June 6, 1925 in Montevideo, Minnesota the son of Arthur and Grace Peterson. He passed away on Sunday August 14, 2011 in Clarkfield, Minnesota as a resident of the Clarkfield Care Center.Eldon was baptized on June 28, 1925 at Stoney Run Lutheran Church, and was confirmed on August 4, 1940 at Bergen Lutheran Church.He grew up in the Granite Falls area and attended country school at Stony Run District 22. He attended high school in Granite Falls before graduating from the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, Minnesota.Eldon was inducted into the United States Navy in 1943 and proudly served his country until he received his honorable discharge in 1946.On January 31, 1946 Eldon was united in marriage to Betty Kennel. To this union four children were born. They lived in Fergus Falls for a short time before making their home in Stony Run Township.Eldon farmed until 1969 and then began working at the elevator in Wegdahl, Minnesota. He stayed with the elevator through several name changes: Valley Farmers, Harvest States, Tri Line, and Cenex Harvest States before retiring in 1990. Eldon was very proud of his over 30 years of service in the elevator business.He enjoyed square dancing and working on John Deere tractors, and was a 4-H leader. He was member of Bergen Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and as a church usher. Eldon was a lifelong member of the Granite Falls V.F.W. and was a member of the Farmers Union.Eldon is survived by his wife of 65 years Betty Peterson of Granite Falls, children: David (Tonka) Peterson of Clarkfield, Duane Peterson of Watkins, Dianne (Daniel) Klein of Willmar, Denise (Brent) Severson of Niceville, Florida; grandchildren: Michael (fiancé Beth) Klein, Matthew (Ashley) Klein, Jonathan (Julie) Peterson, Nathan Peterson, Tad (fiancé Ashley) Peterson, Nicholas Severson, Rachel Severson, Darcy Seikmann, Jeremy (Amanda) Grinager and Joshua (Molly) Grinager; great grand children: Elizabeth, Shelby, Patrick, Bailey, Austin, Maggie, Mike, Alex and Logan.He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Grace; brother: Claire Peterson; and daughter-in-law Kathy Peterson.
