Eldon Daugherty, 90, of Montevideo, passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Luther Haven Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 25th at United Methodist Church at 10:30 am. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Eldon Dale Daugherty was born September 20, 1932 to parents Dale Lewis and Rose (Ralfke Hinderks) Daugherty in Crooks Township, Renville County, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at the Renville United Methodist Church and graduated in 1950 from Renville High School.
Eldon worked at the Renville Creamery until 1953. He served in the U.S. Army, Big Red 1 Division, as a corporal from 1953 to February 24, 1955.
Eldon married LaVonne Evjen in 1959 at Bergen Lutheran Church in rural Granite Falls. They were blessed with four children: Nancy, Gene, David, and Susan. Eldon continued to work for Emerson Furniture when they moved to the farm in 1961. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in their many sports and music events. Eldon enjoyed many years of baseball, basketball, bowling, and horseshoes. He and his wife enjoyed dancing, bus trips, and playing cards.
Eldon and LaVonne moved from Renville to Montevideo in 2011. He participated in several activities at the Montevideo Community Center until a stroke limited him in 2014.
Eldon is survived by his wife, LaVonne; children, Nancy Daugherty Schroeder, Gene (Esther) Daugherty, David (Andrea) Daugherty, Susan (Aaron) Hamling; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jim) Cornell and Camden, Brandon (Malinda) Bakker and Wyatt; Joshua (Jennifer) Daugherty; Jordon (Kim) Daugherty and Beckham, Londyn, Easton, Gemma; Tyler (Heather) Daugherty and Owen, Olivia, Bridger, Natalie; Nicholas (Alannah) Daugherty and Jamison, baby girl due in February; Cassandra (Jaden) Thompson; Jesse Daugherty; Moise Daugherty; Isabelle Daugherty; Valerie (Troy) McCulley and Raelynn, Rexley; Eric Pavlicek; brother, Kenneth Daugherty; brother-in-law, Ronald (Charlene) Evjen; along with several nieces and nephews.
Eldon is preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Rose; parents-in-law, Oscar and Clara Evjen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eldon (Marlys) Evjen, Adlene (Don) Evjen Gibson, and Patricia Daugherty.
