Eileen Hoidal, age 97, of Montevideo, Minnesota passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Terrace Lawn Memory Garden.
Eileen Marie Hoidal was born on October 15, 1927, in Fairfield Township, Minnesota, the daughter of Alfred and Dora (Mecklenburg) Schlieman. Eileen was baptized and confirmed in her faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfield Township. As most in her generation, she attended a one room school house in Fairfield Township, District #43 and grew up with her sisters on the family farm.
On September 25, 1949, Eileen was united in marriage to Milton Hoidal at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfield Township, Minnesota. They made their home in Montevideo for over 70 years.
Eileen enjoyed staying at home, raising her children, Dennis, Diane, Dawn and Julie. She returned to the work force when her youngest went to kindergarten. Eileen started at Ben Franklin in Montevideo working retail, Control Data, and Regal Homes before joining Milton on the road driving escort vehicles.
Eileen’s family was very important to her and she loved spending time with them. In the summer you could always find her in the garden tending her flowers. Eileen loved to cook, bake and she enjoyed crocheting, knitting and embroidery. The couple loved having visitors and playing cards; Eileen wouldn’t let anyone leave without a sweet and coffee.
Eileen is survived by her children, Dennis (Antoinette Moran) Hoidal of Columbus, Diane (Larry) Fagen of Sacred Heart, Dawn (Neil) Schmidt of Montevideo, Julie (Dale) Thorstad of Alexandria; grandchildren, Heather (Darrell) Peters, Nathan (Jeanna) Schmidt, Kyle (Liz) Fagen, Brent (Liza) Fagen, Sheree (Robert) Halvorson, Tyler (Sarah) Fagen, Jacob (Alexandra) Thorstad, Ben (Beth Pappenfus) Hoidal, Natalie (Jordan) Wendal; 21 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Erma Belshaw of Montevideo; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Eileen is preceded in death by parents, Alfred and Dora Schlieman; husband, Milton; sisters, DeMaris Cornwell, Bernadine Grages, Vivian Holzheimer, Winifred Erdman, Helen Hoidal.
