Edna Kleene, age 98, of Clara City, Minnesota passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024 at the Clara City Care Center. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 1:30 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. Interment will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Edna Kleene was born January 8, 1926 in Clara City, the daughter of Eilert and Antina (Hellmers) Grussing. She was baptized on March 28, 1926 and later confirmed in her faith on February 17, 1955, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. Edna attended country school in rural Clara City. In her youth, she enjoyed roller skating, going to the movies and going to local dances to socialize.
On September 8, 1954 Edna married Earl Kleene at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. The couple moved to Earl’s family farm and were blessed with two daughters, Laurie and Karla. Edna enjoyed being a homemaker and was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She put her trust in the Lord and believed the best was yet to come.
Edna had a great sense of humor. She loved to visit and learn more about others, usually over a cup of coffee and some sugar cookies. Edna valued family time and she often showed her love by making sure you never left hungry. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, playing cards, gardening and playing Trouble and SkipBo with her grandchildren. She also always enjoyed an occasional trip to Prairie’s Edge Casino, a Saturday evening ice cream cone and weekly Sunday afternoon drives popping in on the relatives and friends. After moving into town, she appreciated her many visits with family and friends.
Edna is survived by her daughters, Laurie (Duane) Dieken of Clara City, Karla Stager of Eden Prairie; grandchildren, Evan (Angela Olmscheid) Dieken, Jarred (Zach) Mattison, Emily (Nicholas) Ruhland, Leah (Wayne) Danielson, Ross Stager, Amie Stager, Kate Stager; great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Sylvia, Susie, Arya, Raya, Hailey, Griffin, Ka’mari, Keilen, Montez, Balance, Amir, August; siblings, Henrietta Hagemeyer of Clara City, Gordon Grussing of Clara City; as well as other relatives and friends.
Edna is preceded in death by her husband, Earl; parents, Eilert and Antina; son-in-law, Leslie Stager; granddaughter, Keli Jo Stager; sisters, Gertrude Boike, Tena Tomes, Eunice Onnen; brother, Daniel Grussing.
