Edna Mae Burns was born on February 7, 1920, in Morristown, South Dakota, the daughter of John S. and Ella (Evans) Burns. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith.In early childhood, Edna and her family moved to rural Granite Falls, Minnesota, but throughout her life she kept close ties with the homestead in Morristown. Edna enjoyed rural life and often relayed stories about country school, how she loved school activities, class plays, and participating in school events. Edna graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1940. On October 9, 1940, Edna was united in marriage to Raymond Fagen of Maynard, Minnesota, in the Maynard Lutheran parsonage by Rev. Erickson. In 1943 Raymond joined the Army and when possible, Edna would travel to join him. In one instance, she packed K-rations at Kellogg's in Battle Creek, Michigan, for a time in 1945. After the war, their home life in Maynard began, and Edna settled into her role as homemaker. Daughter Sharon and son Ron were born. Edna balanced her growing family with her responsibilities for the scheduling and bookkeeping for Fagen Trucking which was the family business. Edna was an active member of Maynard Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, Bible Study Circle, taught Sunday school and Bible school, chaperoned for Luther League, was a member of Maynard Auxiliary and Pilots? Club. She was a very talented seamstress and artist. Many of her paintings were cherished gifts given to family members to enjoy and share with future generations. Edna was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a very caring, loving, giving, selfless lady who made everyone feel special. Her life was a gift to us all.Edna passed away in the early evening hours on Friday, January 13, 2012, at McKenna Crossing in Prior Lake, Minnesota.Surviving family include her children, Sharon (& Ron) Howard of Prior Lake, Minnesota, and Ron (& Diane) Fagen of Granite Falls. Grandchildren are Timothy (& Angela) Howard of Shakopee, Minnesota, Aaron (& Traci) Fagen of Granite Falls, Evan (& Melissa) Fagen of Granite Falls, and Christopher (& Kasandra) Howard of Granite Falls. Great-grandchildren are Ethan and Lauren Fagen, Jake and Brody Howard, Connor, Addison and Gunnar Fagen, and Harper K. Howard. Surviving brothers are Earl (& Shirley) Burns of Mobridge, South Dakota, and George Burns of Morristown, South Dakota.Edna was preceded in death by her husband Ray, her parents, her sisters Myrtle Eggebraaten and Hazel Berends, and one brother in infancy.
