Douglas Saathoff

Douglas "Sach" Saathoff was born April 1, 1948, the son of John & Kate (Christians) Saathoff, in Willmar, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City and attended the Clara City Public Schools. Doug served his country in the United States Army in Viet Nam and was honorably discharged in December of 1972. Doug worked for the Redi Mix in Montevideo and retired from the Clara City Farmers Elevator after 35 years of service.Doug was united in marriage to Mary Dack on May 20, 1977, at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo. To this union one son was born, Wade, in 1980. Doug has resided in Clara City his entire life. He enjoyed stockcar racing and worked in the pit crew for Chuck Shellenbarger and Bill Dack. He also liked Nascar racing, fishing, visiting with family and friends and spending time with his pets. Doug never missed an episode of ?All My Children?. Doug had a special gift for rocking babies and was very interested in the lives of his nieces and nephews.Doug was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 1997 and was a 12 year survivor. Doug passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2010, at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital. He was 61 years of age.Doug is survived by his wife Mary of Clara City; son Wade (special friend Dawn Evensvold) of Blue Earth; his sister Evon (Lowell) Ward of Montevideo; two brothers-in-law: Dan (Deb) Dack and Bill (Sue) Dack and his in-laws Dale & Darlene Dack all of Montevideo; nieces and nephews: Kelly Hemingsen, Jason Ward, Joshua & Beth Dack, Chad & Amanda Dack, Erik Dack, Jesse Dack, Nicole Dack and Matthew Dack; great nieces and nephews: Krista Hemingsen, Jake Erickson, Luke Urbanick, Hunter Ward, Camden Ward, Georgia Ward, Cooper Dack, Brody Dack and Peyton Dack.He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew Jonathan Matthew Ward.
