Dorothy Wing

December 17, 1927 — October 19, 2011

Dorothy Jean Wing was born in Minneapolis on December 17th 1927, the second of two children to Walter and Winnifred (Brown) Lay. She graduated from North High School in Minneapolis and attended the University of Minnesota where she studied vocal and instrumental music in which she excelled for the rest of her life. Dorothy was united in marriage with Richard Earl Wing on August 22nd 1947 and to this union three children were born. They began their career in the funeral business in the Minneapolis area then moved their family to Casselton, ND where they owned and operated a funeral home and family café. In 1962, the family moved to Montevideo purchasing the Nerison Funeral Home and Furniture. At that time, the business was located on the north end of Main Street. They eventually sold the furniture portion of the business, renovated and moved the funeral home to the building at Fifth Street and Black Oak where it remains today. Throughout her life, Dorothy was active in the community and her church. She was a member of Eastern Star, PEO, The American Legion Auxiliary, and Bridge Club. At Our Savior's Lutheran Church she belonged to the Elizabeth Circle, Ladies Choir, and Church Choir and sang solos regularly. Upon retiring, Dick and Dorothy relocated to Chanhassen to be closer to their daughters. Dick passed away shortly thereafter and Dorothy continued to live there until her death. She shared her musical talent by playing for chapel services and hymn and Christmas sing-a-longs at her residence. Dorothy also enthusiastically participated in bridge, 500 and bingo. Dorothy is survived by her daughters Beth Kelly and Cindy Bain, both of Minnetonka, granddaughter Kelly (& Justin) Quigley of Montevideo, grandson Mitchell (& Savanna) Bain of Sartell, great grandchildren Alana, Samuel, Carter, Emirsyn and Olivia, nephew Chris (& Juneal) Lay and niece Jane Lay of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dick, son Rick and brother Jim. Blessed be her memory.
