Dorothy Schrupp, 89, of Granite Falls, Minnesota passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at the Avera Care Center in Granite Falls. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Granite Falls with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Dorothy Louise Schrupp was born on June 17, 1933, along with her twin brother to Edwin and Anna (Tebben) Schlenner in Wood Lake, Minnesota. She was baptized on July 6, 1933 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake and later confirmed on May 25, 1947 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Granite Falls. Dorothy went to school in Wood Lake until 7th grade and then moved to Granite Falls. She graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1951.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Gerald C. Schrupp on January 24, 1954. The couple was blessed with five daughters, Ann, Darlene, Glenda, Bonnie and Nancy. The couple first lived in Granite Falls, then moved to the Twin Cities area for a time before moving to Litchfield. The family then returned to Granite Falls and Dorothy began working at Plews Manufacturing until her retirement in June of 1995.
Dorothy was an avid seamstress, she sewed many Barbie doll clothes for her “Girls,” (as she loved to call her daughters) and she made many of their clothes also. She loved family summer vacations to a lake cabin, going fishing and camping. She also enjoyed her flower gardens. One of the family’s favorite memories and a tradition still going on is the yearly ‘Popcorn ball making’ at Christmas time. Dorothy would make the syrup, Gerald would pop the corn and the girls would be at the table helping in the forming of the popcorn balls. Dorothy loved spending time with family and friends playing cards or games.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Ann Johnson of Montevideo, Dar (Jeff) Olson of Elk River, Glenda (Peter) Bendel of Milan, Nancy (Jason) Schmidt of Echo; 12 grandchildren, Michelle (Jeff) Giese, Kandi (Mike) Steckelberg, Nick (Melanie Arnold) Johnson, Charlene (Nicholas) Ault, Michael Olson, Wendy Kuehn, Daniel (Cynthia) Midboe, Mattie (Andrew) Walter, Morgan (Colton) Berends, Jacob (Jenna Swensen) Schmidt, Levi Schmidt, Jackson Schmidt; 23 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren; siblings, Alvin Schlenner, Delores Wallen; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; infant son; daughter, Bonnie Surerus; parents, Ed and Anna Schlenner, in-laws, Nick and Ruby Schrupp; sons-in-law, David Johnson, Jaime Surerus; grandson, Logan Schmidt; grandson-in-law, Ron Hansen; brother, Clarence; twin, Donald; sisters, Marjorie, Bernice.
