Doris Verneda Olson was born on Oct. 29, 1935 in Sioux Agency Township, rural Granite Falls, MN, the daughter of Owen Morrill and Leona Elsie Olson. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed in Faribault, MN. As a young girl, Doris was very brave and independent. On her own, she attended the Faribault School for the Deaf and worked for years with Goodwill Industries in Minneapolis, MN. After she moved to Granite Falls, Doris remained active by helping with office work at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Throughout her life, despite her handicap, Doris made the best of her situation. She was friendly and outgoing and always willing to help. She loved those with whom she worked and appreciated the extra effort her friends made to communicate with her. She enjoyed traveling, taking trips with her family and shopping in the stores in downtown Granite Falls where all the clerks knew her by name. Doris also loved to take photographs of her friends at weddings, birthday parties and other social gatherings. Celebrating her birthday and Christmas was always a special event. She cherished the many photo albums that she kept of all of her special occasions. Doris was an early resident of Henry Hill Apartments. Her most recent residence was at Riverside Assisted Living in Granite Falls. On Thursday morning, June 4, 2009, Doris was peacefully called from this life at the Granite Falls Manor.
