Donaven Bernard Flygare was born on April 29, 1926, near Atwater, Minnesota, the son of Bernard and Emma Flygare. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater and graduated from Atwater High School in 1944.Donaven served his country during WWII in the United States Army from 1944 ? 1946. Following his honorable discharge in August of 1946, he returned home and was united in marriage to Edna Lund on October 4, 1946, at Willmar Baptist Church in Willmar. Donaven was employed by Olson Garage and Town & Country Motors in Willmar for a time and farmed near Spicer until 1955. He and Edna moved to Clara City in 1955, where Donaven was employed by Minnesota Valley Breeders Association. He then worked at Cenex in Montevideo for 14 years. Following his retirement, he worked for Southern Minnesota Sugar Beet Cooperative and, during harvest season, at Cargill Elevator in Gluek. In the later part of his active years, Donaven mowed lawn for the City of Clara City. A job he dearly loved. Among his numerous interests, Donaven enjoyed wood crafting, making furniture and being active in Immanuel Lutheran Church. He also loved to play cards, and visit with his family and friends. He was called peacefully from this life on Monday afternoon, March 18, 2013, at the Clara City Care Center. He was 86 years of age. He is survived by his son- Steve Flygare of Maynard; grandson- Todd (& Sarah) Flygare of Vadnais Heights; his daughter-in-law Lynn VanAllen Flygare of Excelsior; his sister- Bernice Newman of New Ulm, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son David and a brother- Roland.
