Donald LeMar Nelson was born April 23, 1932, in Chippewa County, the son of Herman and Nettie (Tostenson) Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Don attended rural school in Chippewa County.
He was united in marriage with Carol Streich on December 20, 1951, in Watertown, South Dakota. He was employed as a truck driver most of his life.
Donald was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Don and Carol enjoyed their scenic travels to visit family and friends. He loved to watch his grandchildren and great grandchildren, participate in their school and sporting events and listening to all their hunting and fishing stories. He enjoyed morning coffee with the “Guys” at Cenex. He could be found walking, riding his motorcycle, enjoying horse pulls, tractor pulls and threshing shows. He liked to help out on the farm and to keep himself busy. Cherished are all the fond memories.
Don passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at the Granite Falls Hospital. He was 85 years of age.
He is survived by his wife Carol; children: Kathy (Mike) Brunner of Granite Falls; Janice (Bob) Janorschke of Clear Lake; Vernon (Laura) Nelson of Artesia, New Mexico; LaVonne (Orrvin) Torke of Granite Falls and LeeRoy (Ginger) Nelson of Brandon, South Dakota; 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Bernice (Haven) Larson, Jane (Harold) Flannigan and Delores (George) Zieg and two sisters and a brother in infancy.
