Dennis Neal Olson was born May 15, 1932 in Royal Township, Lincoln County, Minnesota, the son of Richard and Clara (Eggen) Olson. He passed away Monday, February 16, 2015 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.
He was baptized and confirmed at Marble Lutheran Church of rural Hendricks. Dennis grew up on the Olson Family farm and attended Country School District #79. He continued his education at Ivanhoe High School, graduating with the class of 1950.
Dennis served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany before receiving his honorable discharge in 1954.
On October 6, 1956, Dennis was united in marriage to Maxine Aune at Calvary Lutheran Church in Hendricks. To this union, two sons were born.
He began his career as a produce manager with Red Owl Grocery Store working in the communities of Watertown, South Dakota, Wahpeton, North Dakota, and Ortonville. Dennis moved to Montevideo in 1967 and started work as a cattle feed salesman for Moorman Feed Company. He later worked for Standard Feed Company and Dr. McDonald Feeds before going to work at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church as a custodian.
Dennis was a member of the Montevideo VFW, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, and enjoyed fishing trips to Lake Miltona.
He is survived by his son: Scott (Donna) Olson of Jackson; daughter-in-law: Carrie Jo Short of Hastings; grandchildren: Nicole Johnson, Matthew Sankey, Bethany Olson, Nicole Short, Alex Short, and six great grandchildren.
Dennis was preceded in death by wife Maxine Olson, son Todd Olson, parents Richard and Clara Olson; brothers Clinton and Glen Olson; and a sister in infancy Irene Olson.
