Dennis Lyle Aeikens was born May 26, 1943, the son of Ben & Jessie (Christians) Aeikens, in Montevideo. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. He attended school in Montevideo.
In his early years, Dennis worked in landscaping for Bofferding Nursery in Marshall. In 1976, he met Melva and her daughter Kelly. Dennis and Melva were united in marriage on May 14, 1977 in Princeton, Minnesota after which they made Montevideo their home. Dennis worked for Friendship Homes in Montevideo as a fork lift driver for many years. Following his retirement from Friendship Homes he went to work part time for Ice Castle Fish Houses. He was a dependable employee who made work fun for those around him with his quick humor and positive outlook. Dennis enjoyed going to the races every Friday night, playing cards and shooting pool at the community center, hunting, fishing and was an avid Vikings fan. There was nothing Dennis enjoyed more than attending his grandsons’ sporting events, and other church and school events.
Dennis passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016, at North Memorial Medical Center in Minneapolis. He was 72 years of age.
He is survived by his children: Kelly (Don) Snell of Montevideo; Amy (Bob) Laumb of Raymond; Eric (Kortney) Aeikens of Pine Island and Ryan Aeikens of Owatonna; four grandsons: Jackson & Brady Snell; Evan Laumb and Isaiah Aeikens; siblings: Donna (Jim) Peerboom of Rochelle, IL; Donald (Peggy) Aeikens of Minneapolis; Kenny (Janice) Aeikens of Benson; Shirley (Lyle) Tollefson of Minneapolis; John (Caron) Aeikens of Granite Falls; Wayne (Karen) Aeikens of Sycamore, IL; Leona Aeikens of Granite Falls; Joanne Gliesman of Cortland, IL; Elaine (Larry) Anacleto of Lemoore, CA; Patty Aeikens of Clovis, CA; and Jim (Diane) Aeikens of Morris; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Melva, parents Ben and Jessie, sister Beverly and brother Rodney.
