Delmer Joseph Lutterman was born May 1, 1930 in Osceola County, Iowa, the son of Ube and Martha Lutterman. He passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014.
His family moved to the Balaton area where Delmer graduated from high school with the class of 1948. He farmed with his father before serving his country in the United States Army. Delmer was awarded the Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal, and the Bronze Star United Nations Service Medal. He received his honorable discharge in 1953.
On February 20, 1954, Delmer was united in marriage to Marian Pepka. To this union, four children were born. He continued to farm before beginning his career with the Minnesota Highway Department. Delmer worked in Madison and then Marshall, retiring in 1990 after 32 years of employment with the state.
Delmer was a lifelong member of the DAV, VFW and American Legion, serving as VFW commander for two terms in 1988-89 and 1994-95.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, and family vacations. Delmer and Marian enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Alamo, Texas and summers at Lake Amelia.
Delmer is survived by his wife, Marian Lutterman of Granite Falls; children: Doug (Deb) Lutterman of Sloan, Iowa; Brad (Deb) Lutterman of Dodgeville, Wisconsin; Kris (Bob) Danielowski of Granite Falls; Tim (Pat) Lutterman of Marshall; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother: Alfred Lutterman of White Bear Lake; sisters: Theresa Johnson of Lake Benton, Rita (Bud) Medrud of Marshall, Marion (Arden) Swan of Tracy, Margaret (Dennis) Kelly of Mankato, and Armella (Gary) Deutz of Marshall.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ube and Martha; brothers: Raymond, Wilfred, and Edward Lutterman; and a sister: Rosella Lanoue.
