Delmar Gordon Groothuis was born on June 4, 1963, in Montevideo, the son of Gordon and Lillian Groothuis. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City, and graduated from high school in Clara City. Del went to school for the auto parts business and worked for a time in Sauk Centre in an auto parts dealership. He was also employed by Orscheln's in Montevideo, assisted his father in operating Sarge's Café in Montevideo and, at one time, was employed in metal fabrication at Specht's in Granite Falls. Del also served as custodian at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo and had most recently been employed at the NAPA store in Montevideo.Del enjoyed deer hunting, restoring old cars, collecting coins and assisting his mother with the daily upkeep of their home. Del was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He will be remembered as a gentle, caring man who possessed a great sense of humor and compassion for others. Del was called from this life while a patient at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, following complications from surgery and cancer. He was 48 years of age. Surviving family include his mother Lillian of Montevideo; his two sisters Cathy Groothuis of Montevideo, and Deborah (& Mike) Thiner of Brewster; his nephew Justin of Montevideo; several aunts, uncles, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and his father Gordon in 2004.
