Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Zion United Methodist Church in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Delma Ann Stamps was born August 8, 1931 in New Glarus, Wisconsin, the daughter of Benjamin and Anna (Abbott) Block. She moved with her family to Paynesville, Minnesota and attended country school nearby. Like most in her generation, Delma was raised on a farm, which of course led to chores, but the farm animals perhaps knew she wasn’t a farm girl at heart and she was kicked, bit, chased and completely harassed by the animals until she stood her ground and volunteered for house chores, soon mastering them to perfection.
On March 6, 1952 Delma married Marion “Bud” Stamps. The couple made their home in Paynesville and were blessed with children, Susan, Johnny, Penny, Jackie, Terry, Duane and Diane. Her children were her reason and she gave them all that she had. Through the years she cleaned houses, local businesses and picked up odd jobs all the while juggling being a mom of seven. Delma and Bud moved a few times before settling in Buffalo Lake in the early 1970s. Once the kids had moved out, Delma enjoyed going with Bud around the Midwest, taking in the sights where ever his work took them. After Bud passed away in 1998, Delma became independent and paved her own way. She was always game to go on trips with her family and never said “no” to an invite.
Because of the family’s history with cancer, the Stamps formed a group called the Stampsters to help raise funds thru the Renville Walk in the Park, which helps local cancer survivors and families. Delma has been active in the group for the last 14 years to honor her daughter’s memory. She embroidered tea towels that were auctioned off and dedicated many volunteer hours at the events.
Delma was a talented seamstress and her grandchildren will tell you there wasn’t anything she couldn’t make. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, working puzzles and doing word or number finds. Delma was never bored. She would spend hours alternating between her hobbies, while watching TV. Delma’s super power was shopping with a weakness for purses. She had endless interest in people and her favorite subjects were her grandchildren and then her great grandchildren. Delma’s Christmas cookies and fudge are a family legend.
Delma is survived by her children, Susan (Richard) McColley, Johnny Stamps, Penny (Jim) Lenzen, Terry (Mike) Sicheneder, Duane (Sherri) Stamps, Diane (fiancé, Keith Brooks) Dummer; son-in-law, Harold Schmidt; grandchildren, Lisa (Shannon) Honza, Brad (Lisa) McColley, Pete (Samantha) McColley, Tina (Adam) McCracken, Amanda Stamps, Bridget Lentsch, Jessi (Roye) Arie, Jason (fiancée, Jessica Cook) Sicheneder, Jacob (fiancée, Susan Hamling) Sicheneder, Josiah Stamps, Svea Stamps, Nick (Trina) Dummer; great grandchildren, Natalie (James) Oachs, Ethan Wunsch, Braden, Connor and Cameron McColley, Jariden and Maddox McColley, Addison and Finnegan McCracken, Kash, Kynnlea and Kambree Lentsch, Adam and Talia Arie; sister and brother-in-law, Delores Block, Paul Jackson; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
