Darrell Odell Opdahl was born October 29, 1940 in Warner, North Dakota, the son of Arnold and Edna (Thorstad) Opdahl. He passed away, at the age of 75, on February 16, 2016 at his home in Granite Falls. He was baptized at Vang Lutheran Church in North Dakota. In 1946, the family moved to the Granite Falls area, he was confirmed in the Granite Falls Lutheran Church and graduated from the Granite Falls High School.
On May 5, 1962 Darrell was united in marriage to Betty Lou Reu at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. To this union four children were born. They made their home in Granite Falls where he worked at Red Owl and Aldreds Department Store.
Darrell worked as a piano mover and in farming while working for the City of Granite Falls. After 34 years of service, he retired in 1997 as supervisor of the light and water department.
He enjoyed fishing with his family, working on his Studebaker, and watching sports. Darrell especially enjoyed watching the Twins, Vikings, and local high school football.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Betty Lou of Granite Falls; children: Kathleen (Scott Brown) Hanson of Granite Falls; Melissa (Brad) Elyea of Maynard; Jody (Todd) Childers of Yorba Linda, California; Darren Opdahl of Granite Falls; grandchildren: Keith (Robyn) Neuman, Tara Neuman, Katie Elyea, Christopher Elyea, Elijah Childers, and Ella Childers; great grandchildren: Kirstan, Kyylee, Lynzi, Jersey, and Madesyn; brother: Norman (Gretchen) Opdahl of Granite Falls; sister-in-law Gail Opdahl of Granite Falls; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Edna Opdahl and a brother Arlin Opdahl.
