Darrel Janssen

Darrel died on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at his home at the age of 79. Blessed be his memory. Darrel John Janssen was born on August 28, 1932 in Chippewa County to John (Jack) and Carrie (Koenen) Janssen. He attended country school north of Maynard and worked on the family farm. He was baptized and a member of Bethany Reformed Church of Clara City. He was united in marriage to Verna Mae Roelofs on June 9, 1953 at the home of her parents Howard and Lillian Roelofs of Raymond. He was employed by Berghuis Road Construction of Prinsburg from 1954-1966. He returned to farming in 1967 and lived on the homestead west of Maynard until his death. He enjoyed flying, motorcycling, country music, attending car races, local sporting events and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Verna, her mother and their five children; Karen (& Lane) Moen of Stewartville; Randal (& Cathy) Janssen of Maynard; Cindy (& Dale) Quilling of Menomonie, WI; Renae (& Bob) Froemming of Chanhassen; and Mary Jane (& Frank) Weber of Eden Prairie. Thirteen grandchildren; Tara (& Allen) Koosmann, Megan (& Beau) Tordsen, and Lance Moen; Carmel (& Tim) Thein, Cory (& Steffanie) Janssen, Amber (& Darrin) Brouwer; Brooke (& Chris) Bowen, Ashlee (& Eric) Wisemiller; Connor and Peyton Froemming; Rachel, Emily and Ryan Weber. Thirteen great-grandchildren; Ethan, Ellie and Sydney Thein; Sawyer, Brielle, Jonah and Lucas Janssen; Breckin and Halley Brouwer; Jack, Cooper and Will Koosmann; and Isaac Tordsen.He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, son-in-law, sister-in-law and two brother-in-laws.
