Darell Eugene Swam was born February 24, 1933 in Montevideo, Minnesota the son of Henry and Alice (Skrukrud) Swam. He passed away Wednesday February 27, 2013 in Granite Falls, Minnesota.He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Maynard Lutheran Church. He grew up and attended school in Maynard graduating with the class of 1951.Darell proudly served his country in the United Sates Navy. In 1952, he completed Electrician's Mate's School-USNTC in Great Lakes, Illinois. Darell served on the USS Boxer aircraft carrier in the Pacific theatre during the Korean Conflict, receiving his honorable discharge in 1956.On October 23, 1954 Darell was united in marriage to Marlys Akre at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. To this union two children were born. Upon discharge from the US Navy, Darell worked for Olson Electric in Granite Falls before starting his own business in 1960. He owned and operated Swam Electric as a Master Electrician for 43 years. Darell was passionate about restoring antique cars, especially brass era Model T Fords. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flying small airplanes as a licensed Pilot. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 58-years, Marlys, of Granite Falls; two children: Sharyl (Jon) Leinen of Victoria and Steven (Joann) Swam of Shakopee; and four grandchildren: Courtney Leinen, Stephanie Swam, Mark Swam, and Cameron Leinen. Darell was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alice Swam, and his father and mother-in-law, Irvin and Evelyn Akre.
