Dale John Smith was born on February 10th, 1950 in Montevideo, Minnesota to John and Virginia Smith and was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church. He attended District 7 Country School grades 1st-6th and graduated from Montevideo High School on May 29th, 1968. While in high school, he was a member of the local FFA group and football team.Dale married Denise Hendrickson on March 3rd, 1972 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. Three children were born to their union: Jason, Melissa, and Justin. He later married Annette Feldhake on April 2, 2002. Dale worked as a farmer northeast of Montevideo his entire life. He escorted trailer homes during his off season with Kevin Griess. He was an active member of the Montevideo Rescue Squad for many years holding the position of chief for several of those years. He enjoyed sharing his love for farming with his family preparing the fields for the upcoming season. He loved giving the grandkids rides, singing, and laughing while taking out the harvest. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, and meeting up with friends and family. Dale will be remembered for his love for life, a story to be told, a good laugh and a helping hand.Dale is survived by his current wife Annette of Montevideo, his children Jason (Rita) Smith and Melissa (Leon) Fokken of Montevideo, and Justin Smith of Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren: Kyra, Christian, Kadin, Sebastian, Grayson, and Jeweliah Fokken; three step grandchildren: Shane, Paul and Tristian; his sister Sharon (Leonard) Hilbrands of Clara City and extended family.Preceding him in death were his parents Virginia and John Smith and his grandparents Andrew and Maday Smith, and Carl and Alma Christenson; his sister-in-law Lynette (Nettie) Buseman and his father-in-law Lloyd Hendrickson.
