Dale John Bakker was born on February 2, 1931, in Renville, MN, the son of John G. and Grace (Seitsema) Bakker. He was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church of rural Renville and attended country school. He transferred to public school in Renville and graduated from Renville High School.

Dale served his country in the United States Army stationed in Korea from 1953 - 1955. He received the Good Conduct, National Defense, United Nations and Korean Service Medals.

On July 10, 1955, Dale was united in marriage to Patricia Ellen Hendrickson at Wang Lutheran Church in rural Renville.. He farmed for a time and then worked at Sandberg Hatchery. He then became employed at the Granite Falls Elementary School for a couple years until becoming a custodian at Southwest Minnesota State College in Granite Falls. This he did for 32 years. Dale then drove bus and transport vehicles for the next 16 years, until the age of 80.

Dale was an outgoing, friendly and hardworking man. He was a member of Granite Falls Lutheran Church since 1960 and was also a member of the Granite Falls American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. When he did have spare time, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time with his family and friends.

In the morning hours of Tuesday, July 25, 2017, Dale was called from this life while a resident of the Granite Falls Care Center. He was 86 years of age.

Surviving family include his wife Pat; his sons Greg Bakker and Tim (& Michelle) Bakker; grandchildren Mathia Ehrenberg-Bakker, Kayla Bakker and Kyle Bakker; great grandchildren Brayden Strommer and Paisly Strommer; his brother Melvin Bakker, sister Donna Mae Lien, and extended family.

Preceding Dale in death were his parents; a brother-in-law Robert Lien and sister-in-law Jean Bakker.
