Clifford Roth

January 1, 1753 — June 5, 2009

Clifford William Fred Roth was born on Nov. 13, 1925 in Madison, MN, the son of Oscar and Louise Roth. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended country school. He graduated from high school in 1944 from Madison, MN. Clifford farmed with his father and brother Leonard northwest of Madison and served his country in the United States Army as a corporal from Jan. 24, 1951 to Dec. 23, 1952, stationed in Germany. On May 23, 1954, Clifford was united in marriage to Lois Ann Johnson in Madison, MN.In 1960, Clifford and Lois left the farm and moved to Tucson, AZ for the winter. In Tucson they could not find employment, so they returned to MN and found work at the Gambles Store in Granite Falls. He worked for a year and a half at the Gambles Store. Clifford then began work for Victor Fluid Power as a cylinder tester. This he did for 28 years, retiring in the spring of 1990.Clifford was a lifetime member of the Montevideo American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing for bullheads at the Milan bridge, hunting pheasants, telling jokes & stories, playing cards, assisting Lois with her quilting projects, dancing and doing carpentry and fix-it chores around the house. Clifford also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also a faithful member of Granite Falls Lutheran Church. In the early morning hours of Friday June 5, 2009, while a patient at the Madison Hospital, Clifford was called peacefully from this life. He was 83 years of age. He is survived by his wife Lois of Granite Falls, MN; his two sons- Garry (& Barbara) Roth of Warren, PA and Kelly Roth of Renville, MN; his daughter Joyce (& Mike) Rakowski of Brainerd, MN; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Preceding Clifford in death were his parents; 3 siblings in infancy, 2 brothers and one sister.
