Charles Hardy

December 27, 1934 — January 2, 2008

Charles P. Hardy was born December 27, 1934, the son of Allen Sr. and Mary (Essman) Hardy in Jackson, Tennessee. Chuck attended Jackson High School, after which he moved to California. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Peterman on August 25, 1956, in Hayward, California. Chuck and Dorothy began raising their family in California, then moving to Minneapolis and eventually, Granite Falls. After 33 years with Western Electric/AT&T, Chuck retired in 1986, and began a new career as a dispatcher with the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Department. He spent 15 years with the Sheriff's Department, retiring in 2002. Chuck was active in coaching Little League, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and the Telephone Pioneers of America. He enjoyed casino outings, history and socializing with friends. Throughout his life, Chuck had a deep appreciation for a good nap. In recent years, Chuck had such adventures as learning to use and troubleshoot a PC, riding the Light Rail Train to Twin's games, visiting the Nevada casinos with friends and learning to garden. Chuck passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at the Granite Falls Hospital. He was 73 years old. He is survived by his children: Randy (Linda) and grandson Matthew of Eden Prairie; Cindy & Beth (fiancé CR Hamilton) of Richfield and Tim of Columbia Heights; siblings Allen (Ellen) of Demming, New Mexico; James (Bernice) of Richland, Washington; Virginia (William) Bennett of Nashville, Tennessee and Margaret Lancaster of South Haven, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy; his parents; sisters: Clara Belle Sabin and Dorothy Payne and brothers: Robert and Leon Hardy.
