(Celestine) Sally Svoboda was born on February 2, 1928 to Joseph and Clara Salfer. On February 12, 2017, Sally passed while a patient at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital.

Sally grew up on a farm in New Avon Township in Redwood County near Wabasso, Minnesota. She received her primary 8 years of education at St. Ann’s Parochial School in Wabasso, and later attended St. Mary’s High School in Sleepy Eye, graduating with the Class of 1946.

On February 4, 1948, Sally married Jerry Svoboda at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. The couple farmed for 5 years near Clements, MN, moved to Redwood Falls where they lived for 13 years, and then moved to Montevideo in 1967. Jerry passed away in March 1992. Sally and Donald Lausen were married in May 1996.

Sally was in the church choir from the time she was 10 years old. She sang at St. Anne’s in Wabasso, St. Mary’s in Sleepy Eye, St. Catherine’s in Redwood Falls, and for 52 years at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Montevideo. Her dedication to her church and community includes service to: St. Joseph Worship Committee for 6 years, on church building and design committee, Sacristan for St. Joseph for many years, Circle Chair Person for 15 years, cook at St. Joseph School for 2 years and Sanford School for 8 years, Girl Scout Leader for 5 years, St. Joseph Church janitor for 31 years, Rectory housekeeper for 32 years, and on the maintenance committee for 30 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed hobbies of reading, latch hooking rugs, embroidery and baking.

In addition to her husband Don, Sally is survived by her children: Diane Siegfried of Redwood Falls, Cletus Svoboda of Montevideo and Linus Svoboda of Hutchinson; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and her sister, Sr. Inez Marie, P.C.P.A. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerry, her parents, 1 sister and 2 brothers.
