Carol Nelson, age 88, of Granite Falls, Minnesota passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at her home. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls with a Time of Sharing at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at Terrace Lawn Memory Garden in Montevideo.
Carol May Nelson was born on September 18, 1935 in Marietta, Minnesota to Ervin and Anna (Haas) Streich. She was baptized and confirmed in her youth. Carol first attended country school west of Granite Falls and later after they moved, she went to Granite Falls Public Schools.
Carol married Donald Nelson on December 20, 1951 in Watertown, South Dakota. Together they were blessed with five children and spent most of their lives in Granite Falls. Carol enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom, but after her youngest started school, she went to work at Plews Manufacturing where she stayed until her retirement in 1996.
Carol and Don enjoyed traveling to see family and friends. She enjoyed snowmobiling, collecting chickens and gardening, with her favorite flower being the daisy. Carol loved to sew, quilt, atend craft shows and work jigsaw puzzles. She truly enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her children, Kathy (Mike) Brunner of Alexandria, Janice (Bob) Janorschke of Clear Lake, Vernon Nelson of Artesia, NM, LaVonne (Orvin) Torke of Granite Falls, LeeRoy (Ginger) Nelson of Brandon, SD; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; as well as, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; daughter-in-law, Laura Nelson; siblings and their spouses.
