Carol Johnson, age 90, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at CCM Health in Montevideo. A Private Family Service was held on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at Wing-Bain Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens in Montevideo. A video of her service is on the funeral home website.
Carol June Johnson was born on February 6, 1930, in Montevideo, Minnesota. She grew up in Montevideo and was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She graduated from Montevideo High School in 1948.
Carol was united in marriage on November 12, 1950 to Robert Johnson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on a farm north of Montevideo. The couple were blessed with five children, Steven, Greg, Colleen, Jay and Marc. Carol worked at Data 100 and when the couple moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1986, she worked at Kmart and Walmart until she retired. After Robert passed away on June 28, 2011, Carol moved back to Montevideo.
Carol was a faithful member of the Salem Lutheran Church and was a member of the Ladies’ Aid group. She also was a 4-H leader and part of the Homemaker’s Club.
Being a farmer’s wife, Carol learned to enjoy gardening, baking and cooking. She liked to crochet and watch the Minnesota Twins. Perhaps the thing she loved most was having conversations with others, whether it was light batter over playing cards with the neighborhood couples or going to Watson movie theatre each Saturday to see the locals while the kids watch the movie. Carol never met a stranger and would find a connection with anyone she met.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Colleen (Duane) Folkestad) of Montevideo; sons, Jay (Lori) Johnson) of Montevideo, Marc (Rhonda) Johnson of Findley, OH; grandchildren, Shelly (Anthony) Milander of Moorhead, Sara Folkestad of Fargo, Teresa Folkestad of Fargo, Ashlie (James) Clobes of Fairfax, Greta (Ross) Swenson of Clara City, Miranda Johnson of Defiance, OH, Nathan Johnson of Findley, OH, Nick Fout, Jacob Fout, Jackie Craig, Eric (Beth) Craig-Nobbe, Larry Craig-Nobbe; great grandchildren, Alex & Noah Milander, Tristan, Bella, Preston and Jake Clobes, Piper & Riley Swenson; as well as other relatives and friends.
Carol is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Johnson; mother, Anna Haugen; sons, Greg Johnson and Steven Johnson.
