Burnette Ranney

July 27, 1917 — December 3, 2011

Burnette Violet Ranney was born on July 27th, 1917 in Wood Lake, Minnesota to William and Clara Schlenner. She died at the age of 94 on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Glen Oaks Care Center in New London. Burnette was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. She attended country school, St. John's Parochial School and graduated from Wood Lake High School. After high school, she attended Mankato Business College.On February 21, 1943, she married Fred Ranney of Granite Falls at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. They lived for a time in Portland, Maine where Fred was stationed at the Casco Bay Naval Station. When Fred was discharged from the Navy in 1946, they moved to Granite Falls. They became lifelong members of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burnette was a member of the LWML and served as an officer. She also worked with the Sunday School and was an active member of the Ladies? Bible Study Group.Burnette is survived by her daughter-in-law Susan Ranney of Albert Lea, daughter Jerrilyn (& Jack) Schmitz of Motley, son Mark (& Ann) of New London; five grandchildren: Lisa (& Scott) Peterson of Cannon Falls, Scott (& Lori) Ranney of Lakeville, Brian (& Kerry) Schmitz of Monticello, Adam Ranney of Fargo and Katelyn Ranney of Moorhead; seven great-grandchildren: Cooper, Gavin and Griffin Peterson, Hailey and Cameron Schmitz, and Noah and Lyla Ranney; two sisters-in-law: Carol Schlenner of Wood Lake and Jackie Schlenner of Granite Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Michael, her brothers Everett and Gordon, sister-in-law Doreen Schlenner, and nephew Richard Schlenner.
