Betty Turnquist

April 11, 1942 — January 30, 2013

Betty Lou Victoria (Swenson) Turnquist passed away on January 26, 2013 in her home surrounded by family at the age of 70. Betty Lou was born on April 11, 1942 to Arleigh and Grace (Moen) Swenson in Douglas County, MN on the Swenson Family Farm. She was baptized in 1955 and graduated from Kensington High School in 1960. She married Orin Turnquist on November 12, 1960. To this marriage three daughters were born. Betty chose to do in home childcare while her family was growing. She later worked at Ron's Family Drugstore and owned Orin's Café with her husband. She finally retired while working at Friendship Homes in the Office. In her younger years she loved to snowmobile. She loved being with family more than anything and was avid in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking for them and getting together for all occasions. She attended every dance recital and choir concert and anything else she could support them at. She loved sitting in her kitchen watching their purple martins and taking care of her endless photo albums. She is survived by her husband Orin Turnquist of Montevideo; two daughters Sherri (Mike) Christians of Bay City, TX; and Lisa Abrahamson of Montevideo; son in law Brian Barker of Stacy, MN, two siblings: Marilyn (Jerry) Huntley of Montevideo; Roger (Pam) Swenson of Detroit Lakes; Sister in law: Sharon Swenson of Corpus Cristi, TX; Grandchildren: Erik (Heidi) Thompson of White Bear Lake; Michael Thompson of Eagen; Samantha Christians of Houston, TX; Nathan (Susan) Spletter of Dawson; Nicole (Mario) Ochoa of Dawson; Heather Abrahamson of Montevideo; Great-Granchildren: Cameron and Kaleigh Thompson, Meghan and Bailey Thompson, Vanessa, Mario and Jaime Ochoa, and Mackenzie Spletter, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her daughter Wendy Barker, parents Arleigh and Grace Swenson, brother, Dennis Swenson and infant granddaughter Christians. Betty will be forever loved and cherished.
