Betty Pieper

July 5, 1936 — December 17, 2013

Betty Jane Pieper, 77, peacefully left us on December 15, 2013 while a patient at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Wendel Pieper, sons Randy (Julie) Pieper and Tom (Diane) Pieper, and daughters Cindy (Michael) Moy and Amy (Mark) DeBoer. She is also survived by her grand children, Kelly (Caleb) Kirk, Dillon (Rebecca) Pieper, Becca Pieper, Molly Moy, Luke Pieper, Emma Pieper, Matthew DeBoer, Maya Moy, Aleah DeBoer, Jason (Jennie) Huntley and David Huntley and one great-grandchild, Natalie Pieper. In addition, she is survived by her brothers, Bernie (Delores) Stark and Robert Stark, aunt Hannah Parr, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Betty was born July 5, 1936 in Montevideo to Truman and Inga Stark of Montevideo. She was baptized and confirmed in Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo. As a girl she sang in the church choir and was active in the school play graduating from Montevideo High School in 1954. She married Wendel in 1956 at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo, and raised their family on their farm near Clara City. She spent the fall months driving a beet truck for the harvest. Betty enjoyed gardening, and she and her husband were 4-H leaders for many years while their children were club members.Central to her life was her strong and abiding faith in God. Betty was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City, where she served on many women's circles, taught Sunday School, grew in her faith through Bible Study, and visited with members unable to attend services.The light of Betty's life were her grandchildren, who often dropped in to Grandma's house for love, attention and treats. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, and always brought home presents and surprises for the grandkids. They attended countless of their grandchildren's Christmas programs, concerts, recitals, and sporting events'always with camera in tow and words of encouragement.
