Bette Spangenberg

Bette was born March 8, 1930 in Granite Falls, MN to Richard and Jennie Folkens. She was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Clinton, MN and later in life, when living in Maryville, MO; she was confirmed into the catholic faith at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. She received her education in the Granite Falls Public Schools, graduating in 1948.

Bette (Folkens) married John Spangenberg on June 26, 1948 in Minneapolis, MN. They later returned to Montevideo where the family was blessed with twin daughters. Bette worked at Montgomery Ward, S&L Clothing, Lindruds Variety and for the City of Montevideo as payroll and accounts payable clerk. In 1972, Bette returned to school at Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, MO where she obtained her Dr. of Chiropractic degree in 1977. Bette and her deceased husband (John), both practiced in Missouri and later moved back to Montevideo where John passed away in 1993. Bette returned to Maryville, MO and practiced with a fellow colleague until she retired in 1998 and returned to Montevideo.

Bette was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, serving as treasurer. She volunteered at Luther Haven Nursing Facility, loved to travel, read, being involved with her granddaughters lives along with her great granddaughter and growing African violets, which she was always sharing with others. Later in life, Bette became a family member at Luther Haven Nursing Facility where she was an organizer amongst the residents. She enjoyed meeting new residents, was involved in the Reading Buddies program and so enjoyed her buddies coming and sharing with her and remained there until her passing on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.

Cherishing Betteā€™s memory are her daughters: Jan (Clete) Svoboda, Nan (Michael) Baasch; granddaughters: Amanda (Josh) Macziewski, Kristen (Josiah) Rauser; great granddaughter Megan Rose Macziewski; sisters: Vivian (Lloyd) Rasmussen, Eleanor (Clifford) Marholz; brother: Jim (Phyllis) Folkens; sisters-in-law: Marlue Folkens and Laura Folkens.

Preceding Bette in death were her husband (John) in 1993, her parents, brothers Dick and Frank along with her mother and father-in-law.
