Bernice Louise (Janssen) Davids was born December 3, 1915 at home in Bejou-Mahnomen County, Minnesota to Bernhard and Anna (Uttermark) Janssen. She was baptized in Bejou and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clara City, Minnesota. On Wednesday, May 17, 2017 Bernice died at the Granite Falls Health Care Center surrounded by her family. She was 101.
Bernice attended school in rural Clara City and following her education she was employed by several Clara City families as a housemaid. Shortly after her employment with the Davids Dairy, Bernice and Berend (Ben) Davids were united in marriage November 28, 1940 in Eldora, Iowa. They were blessed with four children - Berend, LaVonne, Douglas and Ruth. The majority of her life Bernice was a farm wife engaged in the farming operation and raising her children.
As a young wife and mother Bernice loved to entertain and care for her extended family especially her siblings. Her experience as a housemaid and farm wife empowered her with a work ethic she instilled in her children. Once she acquired more time in her personal life she turned her hard working days into enjoyment. She traveled throughout the United States with her dearest friend Joan Wolf, continued to garden, became a competitive bowler, was a charter member of the Clara City Garden Club and worked endlessly for her church. In September 2004 she moved to Prairie Park Senior Living where card playing and reading became
a more relaxed pastime. Due to health concerns, she moved to the Granite Falls Health Care Center in August of 2016.
Bernice is survived by her three children; LaVonne (DuWayne) Koenen of Granite Falls, Douglas (Jeanne) of Nashua, Ruth (Stephen) Giel of Eagan; ten grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben, her son, Berend, her parents, three sisters, six brothers and two nephews.
