Beatrice Velde
February 19, 1922 — May 23, 2014
Beatrice Elaine Velde was born February 19, 1922, in Sioux Agency Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the daughter of Peter and Martha (Stokke) Pederson. She passed away Friday evening at the Granite Falls Manor at the age of 92.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Rock Valle Lutheran Church. Beatrice grew up in the Echo area and graduated from Echo High School in 1940.
On November 23, 1941, Beatrice was united in marriage to LaGrant Velde at Rock Valle Lutheran Church. To this union four children were born.
She was a devoted mother and loving wife caring for the farm and the children while the family lived on the family farm in Minnesota Falls Township.
Beatrice was active in Homemakers Club, Birthday Club, Lutheran Church Circles, taught Sunday school, and was a 4-H Leader. She enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing, and “hardanger”, stitching beautiful pieces until she lost her vision to macular degeneration at age 78.
She enjoyed golfing, bowling, and entertaining, and she and LaGrant were able to spend winters in Alamo, Texas, for 27 years.
Beatrice is survived by her husband of 72 1/2 years; LaGrant Velde of Granite Falls; son David (Kathy) Velde of Granite Falls; daughters: Connie (Roger) Hickman of Inver Grove Heights and Patricia Pederson of San Antonio, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brother: Vernon (Lorraine) Pederson of Bloomington; sister: Elizabeth (John) Kellerman of St. Paul; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Peter and Martha; daughter Muriel Hannum in 2000; grandson: Matthew Hannum and brothers: Leroy, Peter, Howard, and Joseph Pederson.
