Barbara Jean Thielen was born August 27, 1940, the daughter of Floyd & Naomi Holmes in Urbana, Illinois. She attended school in Jacksonville, Florida and graduated from the Andrew Jackson Senior High. She went on the study at the Florida Institute of Technology.
She was living in California when she met Leonard “Skip” Thielen. They were united in marriage on February 13, 1973, in Reno, Nevada. The family moved to Minnesota in January of 1975. Barb worked at Warner Manufacturing and later managed a convenience store in Sacred Heart. She enjoyed being outside and some of her favorite activities were four wheeling, snowmobiling, ceramics, sewing and knitting. She also loved camping and boating. She always treasured time spent with family and friends.
Barb passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at the St. Cloud Hospital. She was 79 years of age.
She is survived by her husband Skip of Renville, children: Cherye Strommer of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jerry Martin of Excelsior, Leonard Jr Thielen of Stewartville, Troy Thielen of Sacred Heart; grandchildren: Erik Strommer of Lockhaven, Pennsylvania, Daniel Martin of Rogers, Kyle Martin of Rogers, Jessica Meyer of Clear Lake, Jennifer Thielen of Becker, Troy Jr. Thielen of Clara City, Derek Thielen of St. Cloud & Scott Thielen of Stewartville; twelve great grandchildren and one brother Buddy Holmes of Jacksonville, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Betty Hiatt, son Scott Thielen and daughter-in-law Connie Thielen.
Memorial services held on Friday, November 15th at 1:00 pm at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home Chapel in Granite Falls.
