Avis Monson

Avis Virgil Monson was born August 4, 1914 in Hazel Run Township, the daughter of Gerhard and Cora Wilson. She passed away on September 26, 2011 at the Manor in Granite Falls. Avis attained the age of 97 years.She was baptized at Bergen Lutheran Church and confirmed at Hazel Run Lutheran Church. Avis grew up in the Hazel Run area and attended the Roadside Country School.On March 12, 1934 Avis was united in marriage to Lyle Monson in Granite Falls. To this union eight children were born. Avis and Lyle lived in Minneapolis for a short time during World War II before moving to back to Granite Falls.Avis was a loving mother and devoted wife caring for the family home and raising the children. She was able to live at home until October of 2010 before moving into the Granite Falls Manor where she recently celebrated her 97th birthday with family and friends.Avis is survived by her children: Gary (Elaine) Monson of Granite Falls; John (Katie) Monson of Prescott, Arizona; Thomas (Norma) Monson of Spicer, Minnesota; Marilyn (Tony) Appollo of Sun City, Arizona; Joanne (Patrick) Ohliger of Granite Falls; Patricia Anderson of Granite Falls; 27 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; sister: Elsie Halvorson of Granite Falls; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle in 1989; sons: Mark and Wayne; great grandchild: Thomas Nieman; sisters: Ina Risa, Beverly Thompson, Shirley Allchin; daughter-in-law: Laurie Monson.
