Avis Lucille Winge Harris was born December 17, 1920, the daughter of Manford & Josie Winge in Riverside Township, Dawson, Minnesota. She was baptized at Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church rural Dawson. She graduated from the Dawson High School. Following graduation she worked in defense work in Minneapolis. She married Roy Hill of Dawson following World War II. He passed away in an automobile accident in 1947. Avis worked at Hovland Drug in Dawson for two years. She married Edmund Nygaard of Granite Falls in 1949. They lived in rural Granite Falls where Ed worked for Mooney Construction. They later moved to Montevideo where they lived till Ed passed away. Avis worked in Montevideo for Bell Telephone Company. She then met and married Jerry Harris of Maynard. They lived in Montevideo till retirement, when they spent their winters in Texas for many years. Jerry passed away in January of 2002. Avis moved into Brookside Manor for a time and later moved to the Johnson Memorial Care Center where she resided until her death on Sunday March 7, 2010. She was 89 years of age. She is survived by her brother Ruben (Donna) Winge of Dawson; sisters-in-law JoAnn Raulerson of Tallahassee, Florida and June Harden of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother-in-law Leon Harris of Salinas California; several nieces and nephews: Robert Winge of Fargo, Vickie Mammele of Montevideo, Denise Schilling of Dawson and Gary Winge of Montevideo.She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Sonja and three husbands.
