August Fried

August (Gust) Fried was born August 3, 1921 on the family farm in Crate Township, the son of August Fried, Sr. and Josephine Fried. He attended St. Clara Parochial School.Gust was united in marriage with Norma Cronen Fried on April 11, 1945. Together, they farmed for 43 years. They retired to Clara City in 1988.While a resident of the Clara City Care Center, Gust died peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, January 28, 2009. He was 87 years old.He is survived by his wife Norma; their three children: Bruce (Pat) Fried of Salem, OR; Beverly (Gary) Retzlaff of Lake Lillian, MN; and Gary (Mary) Fried of Red Wing, MN; five grandchildren: Todd, Scott and Jason Noble, and Adam and Kelsey Fried; five great grand children: Shawn Noble, Zach Noble, Alexis Noble, Xavier Noble and Griffen Gus Noble; and his sister Mary Jakobs. Gust was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Tony Freid, Lawrence Fried and John Fried; one brother-in-law Willie Jakobs; two sisters-in-law: Elbie Fried and Evelyn Freid along with other relatives and friends.
