Arlo “Punk” Evan Anderson was born on April 25, 1935, in Montevideo, Minnesota, the son of Albert and Laura (Collins) Anderson. He grew up on the family farm near Montevideo and attended school. Arlo was baptized and confirmed in his faith as a youth. He served his country in the United State National Guard for 8 years and was honorably discharged.
Punk began working as a drainage ditch engineer, surveying many projects. Through the years, he also held employment at Ruether Bros, Curtis Trucking and Mooney’s Construction. He was married to June Mickelson and together they were blessed with MaryJo and Daniel. On August 29, 1969, Punk married Susanne Hansen in Granite Falls, Minnesota and together they were blessed with Kyle and Kara.
For Punk, retirement just meant finding other jobs. He started helping out at the golf course doing maintenance and fixing anything that broke. Punk also was a “go-for” for Kruse Motors and then Schwieters. He loved running errands for people and also catching a quick nap in between the trips.
When Punk was young, he enjoyed racing and his number was ’35.’ Following a bad wreck on the track, he continued with his passion of racing and began helping out at the track as a flagman and driving the water truck. He enjoyed golfing and bowling and was even on four different bowling leagues at one time. He also loved his Minnesota Vikings. Everyone knew Punk was a social butterfly, but he was also fond of shopping, needing a pair of work boots for each day of the week it seemed.
