Ann Ruiter was born on March 4, 1916, in Chandler, MN; the daughter of Henry and Martha Van Ruler. She was baptized in May of 1916 at the Chandler Christian Reformed Church and attended high School in Slayton, graduating in 1934. She then attended and graduated from Teacher's College in Slayton in 1935.On February 7, 1939, Ann was united in marriage to Joe Ruiter in Leota. She taught school in Murray County. After moving to the Clara City area, Ann continued to teach in the Maynard School District in Chippewa County for 10 years. She was also employed by the Clara City Drug Store for 17 years. During her active years, Ann enjoyed quilting with the Bethany Quilters, participating in Senior Citizens activities, playing cards, Ladies Aid and teaching Sunday school. She was a faithful member of Bethany Reformed Church and loved being with her family and friends. In the evening hours of Thursday March 21, 2013, Ann was called peacefully from this life while a resident of the Clara City Care Center. She was 97 years of age. Surviving family include her children- Freddie & Paul Riedel of Ramsey, Harlan & Diane Ruiter of Clara City, and Marcia & Lowell Schwitters also of Clara City; grandchildren- Terry & Sharon Hayunga, Curt & Joyce Hayunga, David & Kelly Hayunga, John & Darla Chartier, Renae & Jeff Koenen, Deb & Lee Mickle, Rhonda Ruiter & Dick Manner, Brad & Sara Ruiter, Scott & Ivy Ruiter, Lane & Amy Schwitters, Greg & Sarah Schwitters, Chris & Karla Schwitters and Laura Schwitters; 29 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; one brother Martin & Jennie Van Ruler and many friends and extended family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joe in 1987; her sisters- Gertie, Eva & Jennie and her brothers- Joe, Guys and John.
