Alvin Gilbert Syring was born in rural Granite Falls to Bernard and Mabel (Johnson) Syring on August 28, 1925. He attended country school in District 81 on Highway 67 through the 8th grade. Due to his mother’s failing health, Alvin was raised by his uncle and aunt, Frank and Clara (Johnson) Syring, along with their family Harriet, Darrel, Harold and Delores, from 1931 to adulthood.
Alvin worked for local farmers until being drafted into the military. He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army from 1950 – 1952, as a member of the B Battery 847th anti-aircraft division. Upon his honorable discharge, Alvin returned to the Granite Falls area and continued working for local farmers. He loved horses and had many of them. In 1970, Alvin purchased a small acreage in Hazel Run Township and began residing there in 1977. He then worked for AMPI in Dawson, Minnesota, for 7 years until retiring. He never married.
Alvin is survived by his foster family, Harriet Schroepfer, Delores Koepke and numerous 2nd cousins and extended family.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Mable Syring; brother, Willis Syring; foster parents, Frank and Clara Syring; foster brothers, Harold and Darrel Syring, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
