Alvin Leander Sandquist was born November 2, 1925, in Watertown, Minnesota, the son of Sydney and Lillie Sandquist. He passed away Thursday, September 4, 2014, at the Granite Falls Manor in the loving presence of his family.
Alvin was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown. He grew up and attended school in Watertown graduating from Watertown High School. He continued his education at the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis.
Alvin served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict, stationed in Korea and Japan (1950-1952). In 1958, Alvin was united in marriage to Eleanor Pieper at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. To this union, four children were born. They made their home and raised their children in Granite Falls. Alvin worked as an office manager and bookkeeper for Winter Motors, Plews Manufacturing, and Knutson Brothers.
Alvin enjoyed traveling to such destinations as Alaska, Norway, Russia, Nepal, Germany, France, and many parts of the United States. He was a member of Granite Falls Lutheran Church and the Granite Falls American Legion. He especially enjoyed spending many wonderful summers at the lake cabin.
He is survived by his wife Eleanor of Granite Falls; children: Paul (Renee) Sandquist of Eden Prairie; David (Debra) Sandquist of Kasota; Janet (Brad) Jans of Wayzata; Gary (Kellie) Sandquist of Colton, South Dakota; grandchildren: Jonathan, Amy, Sarah, and Michelle Sandquist; Katherine and Alexandra Sandquist; Isaac and Peter Jans; and other extended family and friends.
Alvin was preceded by his parents: Sydney and Lillie; sister: Esther Titrud; brothers-in-law: Donald Cornell and Marvin Tonn; and sister-in-law: Elsie Sandquist.
