Alpha Hersom, age 96, of Clara City passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Lutheran Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, November 12, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo. Interment will follow in Terrace Lawn Memory Garden in Montevideo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Alpha Hersom was born April 13, 1925, in Lake Shore Township, Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota to Carl Joseph and Mabel Helena Monson. Alpha was baptized at Garfield Lutheran Church in May 1925 and confirmed in September 1939. She grew up in the Madison area and attended country school. On October 14, 1943, Alpha was united in marriage to Elmer Hersom at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Canby, Minnesota. They were married almost 73 years and were blessed with four daughters, eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Alpha and Elmer spent a majority of their lives farming and raising livestock. A consummate mother and homemaker, Alpha was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She loved gardening and sold many jars of homemade raspberry jelly and fresh vegetables at the local Farmer’s Market. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards.
Alpha was called from this life on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, while a resident of Luther Haven Nursing Home, Montevideo, Minnesota.
Alpha is survived by her children: Barbara Wicks of Palmetto, FL, Janice (Richard) Severson of Lakeville, Connie Hudson of Rochester, JoAnn Brown of Pflugerville, TX; nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; sister, Alyce Weber; brothers, Kenneth Monson, James Monson; sister-in-law, Dorothy Monson; brother-in-law, Hilary Kraus; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Alpha was predeceased in death by her parents; husband, Elmer Hersom; sons-in-law, Harlan Wicks, David Hudson; granddaughters, Nicole Hudson, Sandra Zywicki; great grandson, Theo Hudson; sisters, Gladys Monson, Mildred Schommer, Helen Wilkening, Ruth Gatzemeyer, Charlotte Kraus, Mary Granfors; brothers, Wallace, Phillip, Charles, Roger; sisters-in-law, Marlys Monson, Iona Monson; brothers-in-law, Francis Schommer, Ray Wilkening, Jack Granfors, Dale Gatzemeyer, LeRoy Weber.
