Alma Kvistero

February 22, 1912 — September 30, 2013

Alma Margaret Kvistero was born February 22, 1912, the daughter of Nels & Ellen Thorstad, in Dunn County, North Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Vang Lutheran Church and attended country school in Dunn County. She was united in marriage to Melvin Kvistero on June 18, 1939. They lived on a farm outside of Sacred Heart until they moved to town so they could take care of AlmaÂ?s mother. Later, they moved to Raymond in order to be closer to Rice Memorial Hospital where Melvin received his dialysis treatments. After Melvin passed away, Alma returned to Sacred Heart where she continued making her wonderful Sunday dinners and her famous doughnuts. She moved to Henry Hill apartments and later entered the Granite Falls Manor.Alma was an active member of Hawk Creek Lutheran Church and enjoyed being part of WELCA. She was a caregiver most of her life, and continued taking care of "old people" until she was over 80 herself. She accepted the limitations that came with advancing age with realistic dignity, and with gratitude for what was done for her. "Oh, I have it so good here," was her constant description of life at the Granite Falls Manor. She is survived by her daughters: Karen (& Randy) Moe of Plymouth and Mary (& Doug) Pape of Sacred Heart; six grandchildren: Kari (& Neil) Gislason of Renville, Jamie Nordang (special friend Steve Magnuson) of Granite Falls, Aaron (& Joleen) Pape of Sacred Heart, Jennifer (& Jim) Sullivan of Renville; Matthew Moe of Plymouth and Marie Moe (special friend Damion Lyons) of Brooklyn Park; eight great grandchildren Tim (& Ashley) Maurice, Tess Maurice, Brandon Sullivan, Traveler Lerud, Cheyanne Nordang, Garrett Nordang, Ben Gislason and Payton Pape; one great great grandchild Kaylee Maurice; sister-in-law Helen Thorstad; and nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers: Orville, Reuben & Spencer; her sister Edna, one half brother Elmer and a half sister Olive.
