Alice Pauline Einerson was born on May 7, 1924 in Moose Lake, the daughter of Charles and Lempi Korhonen. She passed away June 3, 2015 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.
She was baptized at home and confirmed in the Finnish language at Soumi Lutheran Church in Kettle River. Alice attended elementary school in Kettle River and graduated from Moose Lake High School. She then continued her education at Duluth State Teachers College receiving her Bachelors of Science degree in Physical Education in 1946.
Her teaching career began in Chisolm where she taught physical education and swimming for one year. In 1947 through 1951, she taught in the Montevideo school district. Alice took time off until 1965 to raise the family, in 1966 she returned to teaching at the new Montevideo High School. She coached volleyball for the Mohawks and retired in 1981. Her interest in sports continued as an official for volleyball matches, and umped softball games. Alice played softball in the community education program and for many years enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, gardening, watching and listening to local sporting events and the Minnesota Twins.
Alice was united in marriage to Rudy Einerson on June 17, 1950 at the Our Saviors Lutheran Church Parsonage. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and was active with the Claudia Bible study, church boards, the Lunch Bunch, enjoyed adult Bible study and taught Sunday school. Alice was a member of Education Minnesota, and a lifetime member of the National Education Association, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Alice is survived by her children: Mark (Mary Beth) Einerson of Hilliard, Ohio; Mary (Alan) Dzubak of Johnston, Iowa; grandchildren: John Dzubak, Allison Dzubak, Kyle Einerson and Katy Einerson; brother: Timothy Korhonen of Plymouth; sisters: Phyllis Johnson of Kettle River; Lois Hattenberger of Brooklyn Center; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rudy Einerson in 2007; parents: Charles and Lempi Korhonen; brothers-in-law: Harold Johnson and Adrian Hattenberger; sister-in-law Iona Korhonen; and a nephew Owen Korhonen.
