Alice Cronen

Alice Ramona Cronen was born November 19, 1929, the daughter of Thorvold and Anne Laumb, in Montevideo. She was the 13th of 13 children. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Mandt Lutheran Church. Alice grew up on the home farm in Mandt Township, rural Montevideo. She attended rural country school in District 54 in Mandt Township for eight years. She then attended Montevideo High School graduating in 1947. She continued her education with Normal Teachers Training in Montevideo graduating in 1948. She taught in Chippewa County rural schools for three years. Alice was united in marriage to Bernard Cronen on October 5, 1950, at St. Clara Catholic Church in Clara City, where she became a faithful member. They made their home on a farm near Clara City, where they farmed together for many years. To this union four children were born: Bette, Timothy, Patricia and Daniel. They moved into Clara City in 2002. Alice enjoyed many hobbies: needle point, quilting, flower and vegetable gardening, photography, collecting cabbage patch dolls and reading. She also enjoyed helping on the farm. She loved and cared for all kinds of animals. Alice passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2013, at the Clara City Care Center. She was 84 years of age. She is survived by her children: Bette Lou (Wayne) Talley of Tea, South Dakota; Patricia Ann Goblish and Daniel Lee (Carrie) Cronen all of Clara City; grandchildren: Chad Gerdes of Sioux Falls; Jennifer Joy (Josh) Whitcomb of St. Paul; Clint (Felicia) Gerdes of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Jessica (Zack) Click of Fargo, North Dakota; Kaitlin Goblish of Kandiyohi; Connor Cronen, Riley Cronen and Logan Cronen all of Clara City; great grandchildren: Skylar Gerdes, Hunter Gerdes, Miles Whitcomb and Eleanor Whitcomb; sister Emma Koenen of Maynard; brothers-in-law Kenneth Koenen of Maynard and LaVon Gunderson of Montevideo and sister-in-law Jeannett Cronen of Benson; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bernard, son Timothy, grandchildren: Chris Gerdes and Michael Goblish; brothers: Ole, Christian, John and Tosten Laumb; sisters: Ellen Laumb, Thea (Clifford) Louck, Mabel (Frank) Guth, Olga (Larry) Teepel, Anna Laumb, Julia Gunderson and Signe (Gifford) Oure; brothers-in-law: Leo (Hazel) Cronen, Harold (Joyce) Cronen and Vernon Cronen; sisters-in-law: Lovell (Willard) Gehrke, Norma (Gus) Fried, Elba (Lawrence) Fried, Eva (Austin) Laughlin.
