IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, MEMORIALS ARE PREFERRED TO HOSPICE OR ST. PAUL LUTHERAN CHURCH.
Alice Amelia Bottcher was born August 21, 1916, along with her twin sister, Alda, to Albert and Magdalena Werner in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She graduated from Wood Lake High School and then graduated from the Minneapolis School of Beauty Culture on March 18, 1938.
On December 28, 1941 Alice married Arthur Bottcher at the St. John’s Parsonage in Wood Lake. She joined Art in Abilene, Texas before his deployment to Europe in 1942. Upon her return to Minnesota, she opened her first beauty shop in Wood Lake.
While Art was in Europe, they were blessed with the birth of their first daughter, Sylvia. After Art completed his tour of duty in 1945, Art and Alice moved to Granite Falls where Alice opened her Beauty Salon in their home. Alice and Art were blessed with three more children: Grant, Charlotte, and Janet.
Alice was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, held several different offices in the Ladies Aid, and volunteered her time for various church functions.
Alice enjoyed attending her children’s activities and traveling on yearly family vacations. Playing cards was something she and Art enjoyed doing with family and friends, and Alice loved telling the stories of who won in her weekly bridge club. She was an active league bowler and the winner of many family horse shoe competitions. The Minnesota Twins may never have as loyal a fan as Alice. If she couldn’t watch their game, she would sit and listen on her transistor radio.
Alice liked to garden and sew, and her passion was cooking and baking for family and friends. The coffee was always on and she was disappointed if one or two extra people didn’t drop in for lunch or dinner. Sunday dinner at Alice & Art’s house is something her whole family enjoyed every week. One particularly memorable travel opportunity was when they were able to visit various European countries when they went to participate in the ceremonies commemorating the 25th Anniversary of D-Day in 1972.
Alice died peacefully on Friday morning, November 14th at the Granite Falls Manor.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Art, her parents, and four siblings. She is survived by her children: Sylvia (Michael) Wright of Hammond, Indiana; Grant (Angela) of Fargo, North Dakota, Charlotte (Richard) Rekedal of Cottonwood; Janet (LeRoy) Peterson of Granite Falls; 13 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren, one brother and one sister. Alice had a great love for her family and friends but most of all for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
