Alfred Louis Voudrie was born on December 23, 1933, in Old Ripley, Illinois; the son of Clarence and Oneta (Knabel) Voudrie. He passed away June 12, 2016, at the Clara City Care Center.
If there were two defining characteristics that made up Alfred, one was that he had a love for working that just wouldn’t end. Growing up in a household of 13 children, Al found ways even as a young child to make money. After graduating from high school, he enlisted and served his country in Korea. After graduating from Millikin University in Decatur, IL, he held accounting positions in St. Louis and Houston before moving to Minnesota, where he was Controller at the Minnesota Corn Processors in Marshall. He later went into business for himself where he was a widely respected financial consultant for the ethanol industry. His expertise was sought all across the country, from Washington to Maine, Montana to Tennessee, and all points in between. Al so enjoyed working that he didn’t stop until his mid-70’s when his dementia became more apparent. But old habits are hard to break, so it comes as no surprise that even in the nursing home, as his brilliant mind was being eaten away, Al always had papers in his hands so he could keep working on his numbers.
The other characteristic that stood out when one thinks about Al was that he was a gentleman through and through. A kind, gentle soul, he even held open the doors for his beloved Greta as he was checking into the nursing home. He always thought of others before himself, right to the end.
Al is survived by his wife Greta Voudrie of Granite Falls; sons: Jeffrey (Julie) of Gray, Tennessee; David of Duluth; Michael (Belinda) of Springdale, Arkansas ; step-children: Paula (Curt) Soine of Granite Falls; Rick (Sue) Leyse of Zimmerman; Jennifer (Shorty) Henslin of Raymond; brothers: Delmar (Sharon) of Pana, Illinois; Elmer (Myrna) of Mattoon, Illinois; Robert (Sandy) of Decatur, Illinois; Ronnie (Linda) of Decatur, Illinois; Leto of Moweque, Illinois; Stanley (Mary) of Tremont, Illinois; Clarence (Sylvia) of Nashville, Arkansas; sisters: Leola (Ron) Koneki of Chicago, Illinois; Linda (Harold) Baldock of Owaneco, Illinois; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
